LeaseLinking

LeaseLinking is a Gen Z-focused roommate matching and rental discovery platform — think Tinder meets Zillow, but personality-first, visually addictive, and optimized for mobile.

A Gen Z rental and roommate matching app built around personality, compatibility, and lifestyle alignment — before the lease. Swipeable listings, in-app messaging, scheduling, and ID verification in one seamless iOS experience.

Task

The task was to reinvent the roommate search experience by prioritizing compatibility, safety, and lifestyle alignment — before the rental. LeaseLinking needed to feel as natural as scrolling a social feed: fast, visual, and personality-driven. The full design covered onboarding, home discovery, roommate matching, messaging, scheduling, and listing management — built for a generation that decides in seconds.

Challenge

Traditional rental platforms were built for a different era. Endless filters, cold listing grids, zero personality. For Gen Z — a generation that decides in seconds and expects every app to feel as intuitive as TikTok — it just doesn’t work. The challenge was to make renting feel human again: social, not transactional; fast, not frustrating. Every screen had to earn attention in the first second and hold it through the entire flow.

Results

+35% registration conversion — thanks to an intuitive onboarding and data verification process. +50% average session duration — users spend significantly more time in the app thanks to features that encourage active engagement. 95% verified user profiles — ID verification integrated into onboarding increased trust across the platform. -25% drop-off rate — a more engaging and clear onboarding flow reduced abandonment significantly.

Project Timeline

  • Kickoff & UX Flow Direction

The kickoff phase focused on defining the core product vision and UX flow direction. We mapped the full user journey for both renters and landlords — from first session to signed lease. Key decisions: swipe-based discovery as the primary interaction model, personality-first onboarding, and a dual-mode experience for renters and property managers.

  • Moodboard

The moodboard drew from social apps, dating platforms, and modern real estate products. Clean whites and soft neutrals for the light mode, deep dark tones for the evening interface. SF Pro typography for native iOS feel. The goal was an app that looks like it was built for Gen Z — not retrofitted for them.

  • Wireframes

We built mid-fidelity wireframes with reusable UI components, enabling swaps and refinements without redesigning from scratch. 30+ screens covering onboarding, discovery, roommate profiles, messaging, scheduling, and listing management. The wireframe phase made the design and handoff process significantly faster, reducing final production timelines.

  • UI design

The UI design delivered a full iOS experience — onboarding that hooks from the first second, swipe card profiles with match trigger, home discovery with flexible filters, in-app messaging system, meeting scheduling, ID verification flow, and both light and dark mode interfaces. Every step is intuitive, allowing users to easily filter and find the most relevant options.

  • Final Delivery & Polish

The final delivery included all feedback incorporated, a complete UI kit, and a final review meeting. The result is a polished, production-ready design system that covers every state — empty, loading, error, and success — across the full app experience.
