Islamic Help

Islamic Help is a global humanitarian charity operating across 40+ countries — we designed and developed the product engine that moves a billion dollars from intention to verified impact.

A full-cycle UI/UX design and custom software development project for a global charity. Product strategy, UX architecture, web design system, donation flow logic, branding development, and a multi-sided platform built for trust, scale, and peak Ramadan load.

Task

The task was to redesign the entire digital giving experience for Islamic Help — a global humanitarian charity with $720M+ in donations processed. The product design brief arrived open-ended: no spec, no flows, no system — just a feeling that giving could be faster, fairer, and more trusted. Our UI/UX design and web development team had to turn that into a concrete answer: which donation models matter, how they connect, where trust UX is won or lost, and what custom software architecture can carry a billion-dollar load without dropping a single transaction.

Challenge

At scale, charity stops being about collecting money. It becomes about routing trust. Islamic Help’s giving lived across a disconnected website, fragmented payment flows, manual seasonal campaigns, and spreadsheets. Donations grew faster than the product infrastructure that carried them. Three core UX design problems needed solving: fragmented giving across one-time, recurring, Zakat, and seasonal campaigns with no unified web design system; donor intention that cooled because the user experience between “I want to help” and a confirmed gift was too long; and trust that ran on faith alone — donors couldn’t see where their gift went, a critical product design failure at billion-dollar scale.

Results

$720M+ processed through the platform in a single Ramadan month — at peak load, without losing a transaction. Our product development and custom software team built the full platform and payment integration that carried it. The result is a cohesive multi-sided giving platform where every donation model — Quick Donate, Barakah Basket, Zakat Calculator, Sadaqah, Qurbani, Sponsorship, and Gift Aid — works together inside one coherent UI/UX design system. From first tap to final confirmation, every screen is built for zero-friction giving at scale. End-to-end web design and app development delivered as a single product.

Project Timeline

  • Discovery

Audit, UX research, and trust signals. We mapped the full donor journey across every giving type — from a £5 quick gift to a full Zakat calculation. Our product design team identified where friction lived in the user experience, where donors dropped off, and where trust UX was assumed rather than designed into the web platform.

  • Personas

Key user archetypes and journey maps. We defined donor profiles — from the first-time giver during Ramadan to the committed monthly supporter. Each persona had different motivations, different trust thresholds, and different paths to giving. The UX architecture and information design had to serve all of them without adding complexity to the mobile or web experience.

  • Architecture

Multi-sided system and data architecture. The charity offered far more than a donate button. Our product development team organised every giving path into one coherent platform: Quick Donate, Barakah Basket, Zakat Calculator, Sadaqah, Qurbani, Aqiqah, Sponsorship, and Gift Aid. Six ways to give, one custom software engine underneath — a marketplace-level architecture challenge for a humanitarian platform.

  • Wireframes

Every path, one spine. UX design wireframes mapped the full giving flow for each donation model — ensuring consistency across user experiences while respecting the unique logic of each. The Barakah Basket signature flow lets donors add multiple causes and pay in a single transaction, with the platform engine splitting every share automatically. Product design at its most invisible and effective.

  • Design System

UI components, states, brand identity. The web design system was built around Karla and Antonio typefaces — a geometric sans that stays calm and legible through long donation flows. One typeface, every screen, zero friction. A complete UI/UX design system ready for custom development handoff and long-term platform scalability.

  • Build & Payment

Stripe capture, split, schedule. Our custom software development team built the full payment layer — every contribution flows through a connected system, organizing donors, payment types, campaigns, and operational analytics into one scalable web development infrastructure built for large-scale fundraising. The app development architecture handles peak Ramadan load without dropping a transaction.

  • Launch

Peak Ramadan load, then live. From an open-ended brief to a product that holds under peak load — this is how a vague ambition became a measured engine through end-to-end UI/UX design, web design, custom software development, and product strategy. The platform went live and processed $720M+ in its first production month.
