Don’t make the auction prettier — make it honest. A cross-border car platform rebuilt around the price you actually pay.

A cross-border car auction platform for dealers and private buyers — brand, design system, website and mobile app. Every cost shown before the bid, one price from bid to door, built for five markets and one thumb.

Title

Task

Car auctions are built for dealers, not for the people bidding. Unclear when a lot closes. Unclear how buying, payment, and delivery actually work. Heavy registration, dense regulation, and almost no mobile — even though bids happen on the move. AutoTecko had the operations solved: sourcing, clearing, paperwork, delivery. Our job was to design a product a first-time buyer could use without insider knowledge.

Title

Challenge

Buyers don’t fear auctions. They fear the unknown. When it closes, what it costs, how the car arrives — none of it is ever clear upfront, and every unknown is a place to lose money you didn’t budget for. On top of that, one interface had to serve two opposite audiences: a dealer who wants density and speed, and a private buyer committing to a car they’ve never seen. Across five languages, two platforms, and a cost structure — bid, commission, duty and VAT, transport — that the category keeps deliberately vague.

Results

Every unknown got a screen. Deadline, landed cost, delivery — each fear answered before the bid, not after. 100% of costs shown before you bid, 1 price from bid to your door, 0 surprises at checkout. A complete price turned out to build trust faster than any badge: buyers who saw the true landed cost upfront were the ones who committed. What we fixed: hidden costs, buried deadlines, slow registration, no mobile.

Project Timeline

  • Research

We designed against the real fears of a cross-border auction — the questions anyone asks before committing to a car they’ve never seen. Dealers and private buyers judge a lot on different signals; we mapped both and designed for the overlap.

  • Briefing

Five promises had to hold on every screen: cross-border, verified condition, true landed cost, mobile-first, cleared and registered. Everything else followed from those.

  • Wireframes

Flow-driven architecture before visuals. Splash → onboarding with email, phone and company verification → Browse (catalog, filters, lot page) → Bid (watchlist, bid flow, history, cost calculator) → Account (documents, won lots, payment, settings).

  • UI Design

Lot page anatomy: every element answers one buyer fear, turning a sight-unseen purchase into an informed decision. Then four screens, one thumb — see the car, see the true cost, place the bid, know where you stand. Each screen answers the question the one before it raises. No modals, no hidden math, no desk required.

  • Design System

Every screen is built from one consistent set of components, not assembled page by page. Tabler plus a custom brand icon set, colour styles split into Base, Primary and System, text fields with 12 variants across 4 properties, Roboto Regular and Medium on a 16/18/20/46/48 scale. One source of truth holding web, mobile and five languages together.

  • Visual Identity

An AT monogram in black and white with a grey arc mark. Effortless to use, transparent by default — an auction platform earns trust by looking like it has nothing to hide. Carried into merch: stickers, tote, notebook, bottle, welcome box.

  • Closing

The idea that drove everything: don’t make the auction prettier. Make it honest. Transparency turned out to be the fastest route to conversion.
